Payment & Customs
JIA SHOP product prices include one standard international shipment. Unless the Order Confirmation expressly states that duties and taxes are prepaid, the price does not include destination-country import duties, VAT, GST, customs-clearance charges, or other import costs. The customer, as recipient, is responsible for the destination import process.
1 Import Charges Payable by the Customer
Unless the Order Confirmation expressly states otherwise, international orders are shipped with import charges payable by the recipient.
The customer may be required to pay:
- Import duties;
- VAT;
- GST;
- Sales or consumption tax;
- Customs processing fees;
- Brokerage fees;
- Carrier duty-advancement fees;
- Customs inspection charges;
- Storage charges; and
- Other charges imposed by the destination government, customs authority, carrier, or clearance provider.
These charges are determined by the destination government, customs authority, carrier, or clearance provider. They are outside JIA SHOP's control and are not part of the standard international shipping included in the product price.
2 Customer Import and Clearance Responsibilities
Before ordering, the customer must:
- Confirm that the product may lawfully be imported into the destination;
- Understand the applicable tax and duty rates;
- Understand customs declaration requirements;
- Understand permit requirements; and
- Understand destination product restrictions.
Different countries may regulate the following products or materials differently:
- Metal products;
- Replica weapons;
- Swords or sharpened components;
- Natural leather;
- Animal-derived materials;
- Wood packaging; and
- Other related items.
The customer is responsible for providing customs or the carrier with:
- The recipient's true name;
- Valid identification;
- A tax number;
- Customs authorization documents; and
- Other information reasonably required by customs or the carrier.
The customer must also pay import charges promptly and cooperate with customs clearance.
If a product includes a sword, sharpened component, or another potentially regulated item, the specific product page and Order Confirmation apply. Neither party may arrange an unlawful shipment.
3 Accurate Customs Declarations
We will:
- Provide an accurate and reasonable commercial invoice;
- Provide a reasonably accurate product description;
- Declare the actual transaction value; and
- Reasonably provide available transaction documents required for clearance.
We will not:
- Intentionally understate the product value;
- Falsely declare a commercial order as a gift;
- Use a false product description;
- Provide inaccurate customs documents at the customer's request; or
- Otherwise assist in evading lawful import charges or restrictions.
4 Customs Inspection and Delay
Destination customs may:
- Inspect the product;
- Delay release;
- Reclassify the product;
- Request additional documents; or
- Make its own assessment of product value or applicable rates.
Such actions are generally outside our control.
We will reasonably provide available commercial invoices, product descriptions, and shipping documents, but the customer remains responsible for cooperating as the recipient.
A customs delay is not a product defect and does not automatically create a right to cancel a Custom Order or refuse payment, except where applicable law requires otherwise or the seller has breached a written commitment.
5 Refusal to Pay or Complete Clearance
If the customer does any of the following, the shipment may be returned, detained, stored, confiscated, or destroyed:
- Refuses to pay import charges;
- Refuses delivery;
- Fails to provide clearance documents;
- Fails to complete customs clearance promptly; or
- Fails to respond to a reasonable request from customs or the carrier.
The customer is responsible for resulting:
- Import charges;
- Storage charges;
- Return transportation;
- Disposal charges;
- Brokerage fees;
- Reshipment costs; and
- Other actual related costs.
If an otherwise eligible Ready-Made Product is safely returned and remains suitable for resale, we may process a refund under the Returns and Exchanges Policy after deducting, where permitted by law, actual related costs and reduction in product value.
A Custom Product does not become refundable merely because the customer refuses import charges, refuses delivery, or fails to complete clearance. The Custom Order Policy continues to apply.
6 Refunds and Import Charges
We generally cannot refund import duties or taxes paid to a destination customs authority on that authority's behalf.
The customer must apply directly to the relevant:
- Destination customs authority;
- Tax authority;
- Carrier;
- Customs broker; or
- Other organization that collected the charge.
The customer must follow that organization's procedures.
Even if the product is refunded, the relevant authority decides whether destination-country charges are refundable. JIA SHOP does not guarantee recovery of those charges.
7 Applicable Law and Contact
Nothing in this policy limits any non-waivable rights available under applicable consumer law.
