These are laced together with thick cowhide cords over a multi-layered cowhide backing, with the iron components treated with a blackening finish for rust resistance—balancing the flexibility required for mounted charges with effective protection against arrows and slashing blows. The complete set comprises over two thousand overlapping iron lamellae, featuring a split skirt designed for horseback riding and segmented pauldrons paired with extended arm guards; it also includes an iron helmet, a neck guard, and a face mask, providing coverage down to the knees.
